I'm glad some of the old inhabitants have migrated back to the site [myself included!] but since not all of the members have returned it is clear that the forum needs to attract new members.
I think I read in one of the email newsletters that you were trying to advertise and whatnot. What are ya doing towards that? What else can be done? This forum won't survive unless we get quite a few active posters.
Another thing, when we were at our most active, we all were a lot younger -- what age groups do you think will actually be attracted to this site? What is our appeal? How are we going to market ourselves as a forum to post on over more general, large, and popular boards like offtopic.com or the like?
This is not criticism, if anything this is a brainstorming topic!

First off, It's good to know you're back with us. Definitely glad you've decided to be part of this site.
I didn't take this at all as criticism. You asked valid and legitimate questions; it's good for everyone to understand the direction the site is going in.
Advertising: I was discussing the activity of the site and its future with Gold and we're hoping that previous members will return to the site. Of course, we understand that we cannot rely on that alone, but we hope to get a decent amount of members back. Because MT Forums was inactive for a good amount time, it is somewhat doubtful that everyone will return, but we're hopeful. The activity of site is definitely our number one priority right now. We need to get new members to the site and by advertising and luring guests, we can achieve our goal.
To tackle this we're going to use a couple advertisement techniques. I've recently started to advertise on proboards support. I've created a thread and bump it whenever I can. Second, we're going to start affiliating with other sites. This actually works when sites are similar or even different depending on what the guests are looking for. All the current members or moderators can also help in the process. If any of you are part of other forums, you can link the site in your signature. Use the banner to make your signature eye catching and give a brief description about the site. You can make your own or copy and paste was it below:
The Direction of the Site: You're right, the site was different when we were younger and the focus was primarily video games. That's what was intended at least. Over time, it became a general forum. The focus of the site has shifted somewhat. Although it remains a general forum, I'm trying to build the site around debates, news and politics. Specifically, the debate system that was created is something that I haven't seen on other forums and it's a spot for people to get their point across and participate in an interactive "Supreme Court-ish" type system I suppose. It's definitely something we need to kick start.

That actually sounds really good. I hope people wouldn't think its a hack website and not click it. That would probably be my concern.

Sometimes if you click on a link, your facebook gets "hacked" and advertisements show up on your feed. I don't know if that's the appropriate terminology.

All these ideas sound great to me! I have one issue though -- if this is ideally a debate/politics/current event forum, we HAVE to do something about the presentation of this site. Dark red, grey, and black aren't going to rest easy on people wanting to talk about more opinion/news based conversations. I could be wrong, I could be the only one that thinks so.
I think since we've all grown up, our forum should reflect that.

I think since we've all grown up, our forum should reflect that. We've changed the focus of MT. After some more thought this idea came to mind. Check it out, see what you think: Visualizing MT's Future
