I think we should try it, what do we have to lose. It's interesting proften that you say we should be focusing on getting new members, the only person who's doing that is Maka, and that has nothing to do with the new boards we think of creating. I want to have fun here. And I think creating this board would create more fun for those that have 1000 posts, and encourage those that dont have 1000 to become more active in the site. That whole post seemed sort of dry and unnecessary. I think this is a GREAT idea for a DIFFERENT time. After we get more than just a few more members, like others have said.

The "reasons Gold just posted" are hypotheticals, and have not been tested. Why? Because we haven't made the board yet. Again, I'll say it one more time, we have nothing to lose. Its not like we have a whole bunch of new members to begin with. Lets try something new, and see where it goes. [shadow=blue,left,300] Hypothetical thoughts and ideas make the world go 'round. Hell, we invaded a small nation because we thought they might have something we believed harmful to the rest of the world.[/shadow]

They're not really hypotheticals, it's exactly what will happen. Try imagining yourself as one of those new members; you'd much rather join a site where you won't have to try and break into a group of people who know each other really well and even have their own secret room. Imagine being the new guy in a group of friends who've known each other for years and go hang out occasionally without you. With the abundance of other forums to join, it'll be easy to skip right over this one to a newer or more "welcoming" forum.
But I do agree with Erik that this idea should be saved until we have more members. And I also want to know: what would we talk about in there that we couldn't talk about on the rest of the site? The Back Room on Smashboards (where Mak got the idea) is there because the site has tens of thousands of members and literally millions of posts, so it's nice to have a room for all the quality posters and well-known members to gather and have a more personal, higher quality discussion. I do not think there is a need for that on this site yet.

[shadow=blue,left,300] My question to all this is... What's the point?
You're trying to reward some of the members who are active, but shouldn't we focus on finding new members instead? I'm not saying the board is a bad idea, I'm saying the timing is wrong. Do we really believe that people will join and post nonstop to get into this one board?
I'm not trying to be difficult, I'm just stating my opinions and observations.[/shadow] It goes beyond rewarding members who are active, but it also sparks interest in members...it's the curiosity to see what's in the back room. I don't think it will be unwelcoming to new members as long as our community is respectful to whoever comes, they should feel welcomed. The back room would serve for motivation to post. Motivation mixed with curiosity. My english teacher use to be a marketer and we were talking about new "clubs" people go to. He was talking about the idea of how getting a large group of people to stand in line for money would draw the attention of people observing that club. They'd think "oh wow, what's this exclusive club about? I want to get in". If people see so many people lined up at the door, they think its good. That's how this sort of works. Not exactly, but sort of. The Backroom would be for members who are dedicated active posters and have proven it. As for the rest, they'd be curious to see what it is we talk about. The curiosity. The Motivation. It's something to look forward to as a new member becomes more at home and active here. It keeps their interest to some extent. As for what we would talk about, probably topics a little more controversial for the site to see and anything and everything those members would want to talk about. You guys bring up valid points. I think I'm gonna give it some more time before I create this board but i'm still undecided.
