For the creative section; let's just break it down into modules and think about them independently.
Okay, so what's the connotation behind "Creative," subject-wise:
Writing
Art
Music
Web
Philosophy (will need to get into this last, because it's debatable for many reasons)
So, I suppose an admin could approach this a few ways:
First Approach--
Create a Category for Each (Writing, Web, Art, etc)
Have separate boards for each sub-topic (below)
Pros: Viewers have a more detailed view of what boards are available without having to click anything.
This might make it easier for new members to get involved
Cons: It might discourage new members from being as active on each board, due to how many new ones there are.
The front page will be quite long, with many boards.
Second Approach--
Create a Creative Category
Have separate boards for each subject (above)
Create Sub-Boards for sub-topics
Pros: Highly organized
More topic-focused
Cons: With many sub-boards, it is easy for them to be forgotten and neglected
Again, with the amount of sub-boards, some viewers/users might get lost in the details and end up not posting at all.
I know there are probably lots more Pros and Cons to each, and definitely different approaches to how you can organize them, but that's what I came up with on the spot.
Personally, I'd prefer as a user to see more sub-boards, rather than boards. So, I would go with the second approach, which would (overtly plain) look something like this, minus the commentary:
------------
Creative
------------
Writing
- Fiction
- Non-Fiction
- Poetry & Prose
- Support
[[ while there are sub-boards, general writing topics would remain under the generic Writing board. ]]
Art
- Digital Art
- Painting
- Drawing
- Sculpting & Objects
[[ while there are sub-boards, general art topics would remain under the generic Art board. ]]
The Internet, Web Design & Web Development (not sure if this would ever be utilized, efficiently)
- Coding
- Design
- Support
[[ while there are sub-boards, general web topics would remain under the generic Web board. ]]
Music
- Musicians (MT Members)
- The Industry --music news-- (I could re-post topics from my website***)
- Radio & TV
- Concerts (videos, tour dates, experiences, etc)
[[ while there are sub-boards, general music topics would remain under the generic Music board. ]]
Philosophy (possibly combine with debate forum, due to contents)
- the Future
- Entrepreneurship
- Philosophy of Religion
[[ while there are sub-boards, general philosophy topics would remain under the generic Philosophy board. ]]
Topic Ideas:
Art
- Artists that Inspire
- Genres of art (or is it styles? I think in terms of music, I guess)
- Naturally artistic vs Learned skill
- The Creative Process (though, I suppose this could go in all Creative boards.)
Music
- The Creative Process
- Genres, helpful or shameful
- Favorite Artists
- WTF & LOL
- Vintage vs Modern (i.e. why I think music before/in/after the 19 - - 's was/is best because..)
Writing
- The Creative Process
- Scholastic writing (MLA, APA, research help, etc)
- Writers Block
- Writers, Poets, screenplay & scriptwriting
Web
- Creative Process
- What is SEO?
- Blogging
- Social Networking
Philosophy, Higher Thinking, & Debate (Science, too?)
- Democracy in Egypt, is it our business?
- "the New World Order"
- Extraterrestrial life
- What is Pseudo-science and should I care?
That's all I could come up with as I was writing. I'll devote some more time to this while you look over it and tell me what you think. I'm going to post it in the Hidden area or whatever so we can all discuss it. My apologies if it's fragmented and hard to understand, lol
***My website is focused on the music industry, audio production technology and software. I am planning on maintaining this website as a form of income, so the quality vs quantity argument is null and void; It's about quality. The whole point of me mentioning this is not to advertise -- not entirely -- but to basically affiliate with this forum for the benefit of both, ideally. Just a different way of attaining quality posts.
Sent that to Maka, decided to post it here for everyone to comment.
